Boer War
« on: Friday 18 September 20 08:33 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My gt-gt-uncle joined the 2nd Battalion of The Somerset Light Infantry in 1898 and saw action at Spion Kop and The Siege of Ladysmith. (He also served right through WW1, unlike his twin brother, KIA in Flanders in 1915.)

In the 1891 Census, his sister was working as a nurse for a doctor in Bristol, but then disappears from all UK records. I am wondering if she went in a medical capacity, with the troops, to South Africa.

Does anyone know about the medical support that troops might have taken with them at that time, please?

Thanks,

Gordon
