You won’t get an exact address if it is as we posted. It would be just that townland.

The house is, as Maggsie says, Number 7 in 1911 and number 17 in 1901 but that is just the enumerator’s route.

I posted the information because you didn’t mention the townland, Ballymackeough, in your post. I thought you didn’t have that.

Until very recently in Ireland, in rural areas, there were no street addresses or house numbers. Your townland alone was sufficient to identify you or get a letter delivered. (As Heywood has explained, the house numbers in the 2 censuses were just the enumerator’s private numbering system, which varied from census to census, and bear no relation to any number that might be on a house today. And there may not be any number today.).

You can go to the Valuation Revision records (held by the Valuation Office in Dublin) and find out what plot number the family were living on in 1901/1911 and then go to the maps on the Griffiths Valuation site to see where that house was.

There is a James Gaynor listed there on plot 7 in 1850. However that looks to be 3 quarters of an acre, so not really a farm. Might not be the same location the family were in in 1901.

Just to make sure we are looking at the same family, Rob.
You have Thomas b 1875.

This is a birth for Thomas 1872

Catherine 1877

They all have parents John Gaynor and Catherine Murnane, Ballymackeogh.  There may be other children too.

Thanks Heywood

My wife's father John Gaynor was born 10 April 1916 the registered birth mother is Ellen Ryan and Ellen Ryan was married to Thomas Gaynor in 1915 so I think I definitely have the correct Thomas Gaynor. and I have the birth certificate and marriage certificate.

And thankyou Elwyn Soutter  ;D
