Western Australia - George BINNING - Convict
« on: Saturday 19 September 20 19:40 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am seeking information about George Binning (b 1840 Bishopwearmouth). He was convicted in 1859 (shooting with intent to murder) and sentenced to 15 years penal servitude. Arrived on "Palmerston" to Swan River Colony in 1861.

Is anyone able to tell me what happened to George Binning? Did he serve his full term? Did he marry? Were there children? When and where did he die?

Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I have had a look on Ancestry. As you say, George Binning (written as Benning) arrived on the convict ship Palmerston on 11 Feb 1861.  He is described as 5' 5, light brown hair, grey eyes, long face fresh complexion and of stout build.

It seems he was given a 'Ticket of Leave' on 9 March 1869.  on 18 March 1890 he was convicted of Larceny and given 10 years. It states that he was single.  Released on 26 June 1897.  He died in Perth in 1924.  One tree on Ancestry says he died in the Old Mens Home in Claremont. Cause of death is Senectus which is old age

Hello ChrissieL & q98,

Thank you.

It was after I posted this query that I found a George "Benning" in Trove, charged with Larceny in 1890. Now I know that (a) he never married and (b) where/when he died. Much appreciated. Regards.
