How to interpret Army Record

Hello, I am paid to have my relatives Army Record digitised but I am afraid I am none the wiser as I do not understand some of the shortened (capital letters) used to describe what he has done or where he is.  Can anyone - who loves to delve into Army history - help me to decipher this.
Also it mentions "Embarked at Townsville for (or per) "David Shanks" - what does this mean?
I have borrowed the history of the 2/12th unit and I would like to match my relatives records with the history of this unit.  The man I am researching is Walter Charles Horsfall NX 11278.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  His records are now digitised with the National Archives of Australia.  Thank you

The record has 12 pages and presumably you can read at least some of it.  To save nugatory effort, can you identify the entries that are causing you trouble?

James -Victoria, Australia originally from Keynsham, Somerset.
Janes - Keynsham and Bristol area.
Heale/Hale - Keynsham, Somerset
Vincent - Illogan/Redruth, Cornwall.  Moved to Sculcoates, Yorkshire; Grass Valley, California; Timaru, New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.
Williams somewhere in Wales - he kept moving
