Dr Leckey Murray Service, d 1888, Philadelphia
« on: Wednesday 23 September 20 15:37 BST (UK) »
Was there an obituary published for Dr Leckey Service, who died 27 February 1888, in Philadelphia? I don't see him in the index at newspapers.com or in the Google News archives, but there should be have been something for a wealthy Philadelphia doctor.

I hope to learn his his birthplace and his parents's names. I am pretty sure he is the son of John Service and Catherine McClintock, which would make him the brother of
1) Alexander Service who died 30 May 1913 in Philadelphia,
2) of Catherine (Service) Price who died 24 June 1927 in Philadelphia,
3) and of Charles M Service, who died sometime after 1900, probably in Vigo County, Indiana (Terre Haute). I'm still working on Charles.

I have a lot on Leckey after 1847, when he graduated from Jefferson Med School, but nothing before that date.

Charles, when marrying (1855, Brooke County [West] Virginia, to Sarah Laughhead) and as informant on his daughter Kate Tyner's death (Terre Haute IN, 1901), said he was born in Washington County, PA, which lines up with Catherine and her husband John Price being with his parents in Wheeling [West] Virginia, in 1850.

Thank you for Jennie's, I had Nancy's. Nancy Haymaker is a clue in herself - when she signed as executrix for Leckey's will she signed Nancy McC Service. - so possibly named after a McClintock. Her maiden name was Haymaker and the family was from Murrysville, Westmoreland Co, Pa and is well documented, but maybe they had  a neighbor named Nancy McC.

That is Leckey and Nancy (Haymaker) Service. Ralph McClintock left everything to his wife Eliza and Leckey inventoried Ralph's estate in 1847, so Eliza is probably Ralph's widow.

I'm almost certain that Ralph is Leckey's maternal uncle, but still working on it. Ralph names a nephew William Mcclintock as one of his executors, but I haven't looked for him yet either.

I have Leckey, Nancy and Eliza McC in 1850 as well, with (very likely) his brother Charles in the household.
Their whereabouts before 1847 are unknown, to me at least.

Possible parents are buried in the Laurel Hill, the same cemetery as everyone else in this family, but I haven't worked through all the names on the headstone yet. They are a work in progress also. And some of the dates don't line up well with this family.
