Hi Everyone

Anyone got any good pointers on trying to find the Carey family from Cork , ive a Grt Grandfather who moved to Watford Hertfordshire from Cork who was born  in 1878 , Ive never been great with irish research , what are the best links out there please ?

What is your ggrandfathers name do you know his parents names also any location in Cork specifically?

Took me a few minutes to see that you had added on to my question , no hence the ask of any good links so I can go searching 😊

I’ve used irishgenealogy is there anymore ?

As your ancestor was born 1878, you should find them in Irish genealogy which you are familiar with.
Civil registration began 1864 (non Catholic marriages 1845) so you should be able to go back one generation perhaps.
You can look for siblings - again through the same site.

If your ancestor was Catholic you might be able to go back further through parish records also - baptism/marriage.

As you know, hopefully where your family are from, you might find evidence in Griffiths Valuation (around 1850s) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
And further back - Tithe Applotment records
These do not provide family information though - just name and townland and land usage.

If your family were still in Cork in 1901/1911 censuses, you can search there.

I was sure I read that you had used Irish  Genealogy  https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

That site is good, as I said, for Civil records from 1864 etc.
There are also parish records for a Cork.

You just need to prove that you are not a robot otherwise site is free.
