I am thinking she must have been registered, (if at all) as something other than Lock(e),  registration wasn't compulsory till 1875, if she had been in a workhouse I am sure she would have been baptised but I am having no luck with baptisms

If the family knew she was in a workhouse there must be some records somewhere, she also might have chosen to call herself Eliza Jane and been baptised and registered as something completely different

1871 would be a clue, but where ?

Hi, just an observation.
Enos married Sarah Esther Blatchley in 1863.
Sarah dies in 1869
Both the 1891/1901 census record her age as 27 & 37 both record born Lambeth.
So is it possible we should be looking for an earlier birth for Eliza Jane.
The 1861 census has Enos living with Sarah (house keeper)
Was Sarah possibly previously married even though her marriage to Enos records she is a spinster.

Just thoughts!!

I have been hunting down (well trying!!) the second wife Mary Ann BRIEN, mainly because she was still a spinster when married to Enos aged 37 in 1875.  She had a relationship with Eliza Jane because Eliza witnessed Mary Ann's second marriage in 1887 to William LADRIGAN.

On her first marriage she names her father as James BRIEN, a Mercantile Clerk, but on the next marriage he is William, a Lawyer's Clerk.  Her witnesses in 1875 were James BRIEN and Jane BRIEN (she was nee HASELWOOD) and in turn their marriage witnesses were Samuel BRYAN and Ann E BRYAN (she was nee JONES).  Both James and Samuel said that their father was William a Solicitor so I assume that the three of them were siblings and William is the correct name for the father.

In 1901 Mary Ann says she was born in Glamorganshire, Wales, in 1891 she was born in London, but in 1881 when she is with Enos her birthplace is also Glamorganshire, Wales.  (Class: RG11; Piece: 101; Folio: 99; Page: 31)  Indexed on Ancestry as CRESSWELL.

A marriage to discount:
Marriages Jun 1859
Blatchley    Sarah        Lambeth    1d   406
Greenwood    Robert        Lambeth    1d   406
Hill    Isaac William        Lambeth    1D   406
Landucci    Louise        Lambeth    1d   406

and these 2 births

HILL, ELIZA  JANE     BLATCHLEY
GRO Reference: 1862  D Quarter in ROTHERHITHE  Volume 01D  Page 554

Caroline's marriage in 1886 was witnessed by Eliza Jane Hill who in on censuses with her father Isaac till 1911.

ADDED:
Both the 1891/1901 census record her age as 27 & 37 both record born Lambeth.

Yes, those are better ages than the one on death record [which is only as good as the information given to the informant].  So 1863 ish? She was a minor at 1881 marriage & signed as LOCK not LOCKE.
Seeking: baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 said to be nr Chatham Kent.

You have birth records for eight children.

Can you list all the details on each....full names, date and place of birth and registration....any addresses given.

Why is one child born in Ireland?

Eliza Jane ADDISON takes three children to New Zealand. When those children marry in New Zealand...what information do they record for their mother?

Thanks for all your input. Her timeline follows. If we look at her being born c.1862/1863 she would have been 47 when she had her last child. Not impossible but 3 children in her 40's in the early 1900's?

Thanks Debra. I had missed that. I had in mind that Eliza Jane was the illegitimate child of one of Enos' wives but hadn't got very far with that theory.
