Peter Byrne sixteenth regiment of lancers service number 366
« on: Thursday 24 September 20 15:11 BST (UK) »
The above is my three times great grandfather he was born about 1803 in the area of Dublin dolphin barn
He signed in 1822 and went straight to India he was discharged in 1838 due to ill health it didn’t help that he drank excessively so the discharge papers say
Is it possible anything survives about him except the discharge papers which I’ve seen but they’re mostly to do with money not really about anything personal
He was married to a
Eliza Kelly and his first child born about 1840 but I have no details of this wedding or birth
Thank you

The discharge papers you have seen are typical of what survives (when they do survive!) from that era so it is unlikely that there will be any other military records of use. He will be listed in the regiment's muster (pay) books for the period he served with them but these are simple listings of names and will only confirm what you know already about his service.

For interest perhaps the history of the 16th Lancers can be read on line here:

No sign of a marriage/birth in the army overseas marriages/births.

PS - crossed with Jebber - agree
I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
