Anna Saville 1786?
« on: Thursday 24 September 20 18:07 BST (UK) »
Can anybody help please?  I have Anna Saville, although someone else has Savage.  She married George Langfield/Longfield in Ryther, 24 Dec 1808. had 7 children all baptised Cawood and in 1851 census has birthplace as Swinton (There are several in Yorkshire!).  The best/only baptism I can find is St Peter Felkirk with St Paul Brierley, 19 Feb 1787, parents William and Mary Saville.  George was born Pontefract. The pieces of jigsaw don't seem to fit together very well - I could do with some more clues.

Would the name of her eldest daughter help I wonder? Often the first daughter was named after the mother's mother (but not always of course!)
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Thanks Pennines, an idea like this could well help. In this case the eldest, and only daughter was called Ann. As I only have a shortlist of 1 (Mary) for the previous generation, which I am not really happy with, it’s not going to work, yet!

Who was a witness at the marriage?
Hopefully a relative.

William Russell
Mary Russell
Hannah Scott

Witnesses All signed. bride & Groom both marked

William Russell and Hannah Scott both appear as Witnesses in other marriages on that page

Marriage was 24th Nov 1808

Clearly Saville on the image

Added, it doesn’t say they are bachelor & spinster,  nor that either are widowed.

Thank you both for information on the marriage, I have not seen a scan of the marriage. I will correct the date.  The witness names do not ring bells, so probably as implied they were the witnesses of the day.  And for confirmation of the name, although I have come across a phonetic spelling on a certificate that was quite unlike  the parents name!

I am looking for possible baptisms near Swindon, Yorkshire - but don’t know which one.

Thanks for more help.  Yes these are Baptisms I have seen - the Felkirk/Brierley one is probably the one - at least it is only 8 miles from Swinton (Rotherham) and to get to Ryther (marriage) she would pass Pontefract, where George was born.  There is a baptism for a sister Jane, (same church, same parents) but not sure that helps much.
