Its a glitch. Mine was stuck at 11 for ages...

Report it to Ancestry, and hopefully theyll take it off for you.

Romilly.

Mine was taken off when I phoned them.

Id emailed them weeks before, and nothing happened, - but it went straight away when I phoned!

It's a known fault, apparently, that they claim to be fixing, but with no timescale as to when  :(

I got to 54. I went through and clicked on them all and they disappeared and it went back to just the envelope icon and no number next to it. I think it may especially be the ones from people whom you have had multiple messages from. If you have lots of old messages it will take a while for them to all appear. Wait till they all download and trying reopening. Hopefully this will work.

I think I've managed to remove mine!

I scrolled right to the end, and then noticed there was one message that was in darker type. It was one labelled "Ancestry Monthly Update", last message was dated 1 Feb 2012. Clicking on that.

Just like Nova said, it was multiple messages, earliest one was dated 25 May 2010.

Result!

Another annoying bug, is when you click the message icon and get the dropdown list of messages, if you click one, you get sent to Ancestry.com, had me very confused for a long time!

Another annoying irritating bug which I have phoned them twice on since this new system came in is.
I belong to Ancestry Canada.  ancestry.ca.   To read a message I click on it and I have to sign in again and it takes me to Ancestry.com.
You always get the run around when you are on the phone with them.
