Thre was not formal adoption legislation in Victoria before 1929.

Arrangements were often made within families and it looks to me that there was a possible  family connection between the HILL couple and the CHURCH family

These notices are about the 1930 death of a HILL son and his sister Mrs Elsie CHURCH is mentioned.

I think you must consider there was little or no "waiting time" between birth and "adoption "

Yes Sue I agree that there would have been a family arrangement with the Hill and Church families re Arthur Claude, the records prove that is most likely the case.

However, There is no Hill, Church connection with the Leslie family, this seems to have come out of left field.

I don't place much fact out of family stories that are passed down, but  there is only one I keep thinking about and that was given to me by a Leslie member.
She told me that Annie Leslie was hired as a Domestic worker at a home, the twins were there and she fell in love with Stanley and wanted to take him, she was told they would not separate them so Annie took them both.

I also found Annie Leslie  on the 1909 Electoral Roll at 177 Madeline Street, Carlton, on her own, her husband worked away often. That seems a bit of a coincidence to me after hearing that story from the family member, it places her in the area,

 I am only missing one thing to complete the histories of these children and I am hoping you can help me find  "where they were from birth until they went to their new families"

 

Well it seems to me that there was not much (if any) time lapse between the births and adoptions in either of the cases.

There is an earlier thread about the twins, I have only had a quick skim, so I apologise if I am duplicating suggestions offered at that time. 

One of my much older rellies was welcomed as a baby being fostered.  He is still well and truly alert and will likely read this post.  The fostering was organised by the Lodge,  his reliquinishing  mum's family were Lodge, so too were ours.  There's several weeks between his NSW bdm with birth mum's details and his dob and his baptism with our family name.  His registered name became the first two of his Christian names (he has three)  on his baptismal register, where it shows his parents as though he was born to them.  This was rural NSW C of E,  Loyal Orange Lodge,  1921.   Perhaps similar way in Victoria a decade earlier?  So no formal family connection but  I am sure the then Lodge loyalty was as strong as family ties...

Yes, same here, but back 100 years ago, many families were in Lodges, it was a way to receive medical care, socialise,  basic education,  and organise informal placements of children ...
