Henry Bennett Dykes
« on: Tuesday 29 September 20 14:40 BST (UK) »
I am looking for some help with the first wife of this person, please.
  He was born in Nottingham, christened 9/9/1823 at Nottm.  St. Marys, the 1841 census shows him at Heaton's Yard, Newark with Sarah Dykes, age 20 (was this a sister ?). In 1851 he is living in Leeds    with wife Ann, Henry shown age 28, Ann shown age 32, with daughter Jane  age 4, born Leeds.
 Ann is shown born Mansfield, but I have not been able to find any surname or dates etc. Ann died in Leeds in 1853, age 34, before Henry remarried in 1854.
  Any help or info. on Ann would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hello there,
   Thanks for the response.....quicker than expected but very welcome,   so I am looking for an Ann Monks, born Mansfield appx 1819, that narrows things down a bit.
  Thanks again.

Re Henry's family - I can't see any sister called Sarah.  There are 4 baptisms with surname Dykes, including Henry's, on my disc; father George, a painter and glazier, and mother Jane:

1820 12 01      Mary Anne    Lincoln St    NOTTINGHAM St Mary
1823 09 09      Henry   Parliament St   NOTTINGHAM St Mary
1826 04 30      Mary Ann   Carlton   GEDLING All Hallows
1836 04 24      Elizabeth   Clare St   NOTTINGHAM St Mary

one more with surname listed as Dike:
1833 07 22      George Brewster   Clare St   NOTTINGHAM St Mary

Marriage in case you need it:
1816 09 03   George   DIKES   Jane   BENNETT   NOTTINGHAM St Mary

Anne's family -- just 2 baptisms, father William, a labourer, and mother Anne:
1816 09 21      George   Forest   MANSFIELD St Peter and St Paul   (MONK)
1818 04 22      Anne   Nr the Race Ground   MANSFIELD St Peter and St Paul   (MONKS)

I can't see a Nottinghamshire marriage for Henry and Ann either ( nor for Anne's parents!)

1841 Census has a William/Mary Monks living in Mansfield;
William MONKS, 60, Butcher, NOT born in County
Mary Monks, 50, born in County
Harriet Cope, 25

FreeREG has a 1832 Marriage Mansfield, for William Monks to Mary Cope. Both Widowed*

Bapt;
Mansfield;
William Munks 29 Dec 1820 to William/Ann ( Father a Butcher)
(FreeREG)

There is a 1802 Marriage also on there William Munks/Ann Bowskill

But if the right Marriage they may have had children elsewhere before moving back to Mansfield?
