Presumably this is Reigate Parish Church. It looks like the wording is taken from a transcript (1899) of the 1530 Visitation of Surrey.

I venture to suggest that it is mistranscribed in that publication. The first line, which references July in the Year of Grace 1349, clearly does not belong to this 1516 inscription.

I believe the original Latin should read:

Orate p(ro) anima Jo(hannis) Skinner gen(erosi)
qui ob(ijt) 8. die mensis Martii A(nn)o Regni Regis
Hen(rici) octavi octavo cui(us) ani(m)ae p(ro)picietur Deus – Amen

which translates as:

Pray for the soul of John Skinner, gentleman,
who died on 8 March 1516* in the eighth year of the reign of King
Henry VIII; may God have mercy on his soul – Amen

*It may well be 1517 in the modern calendar.

Thanks Bookbox.  It was the date 1349 that was throwing me, so I was intigued to see how it transcribed.  It all makes sense now, thanks again for your quick response!
