Ann Render (William Little)
« on: Tuesday 29 September 20 19:13 BST (UK) »
Hello all. I was hoping I could get some assistance researching my 3x great-grandmother, Ann Render of Husthwaite. She was baptized 27 Nov 1825 as the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Render. I’m trying to track down Elizabeth (assuming I have no chance of finding Ann’s father). If possible, I’d also appreciate any help with William Little’s family (although they aren’t as much of a mystery to me). On a side note, William and Ann were married 16 Jan 1848 in Husthwaite. I know they came to Ontario and the only thing I’m missing in Canada is their death records. My main goal is to trace Ann’s lineage but anything helps, thank you!

Start with what names witness the 1848 marriage.

The witnesses were a David Haw and a William Taylor. I remember seeing a note on the parish transcription that said William Taylor may have been a parish official.

If you are asking for help tracing William Littles roots - we need his birthyear and birthplace.  Marriage cert just shows “full age” and his father as John Little - occ labourer

Without more info on Elizabeth Render it’s difficult to find the right person

Yes that is correct. They came to New York in 1853, just two years after the census was taken. They then moved to Ontario. William Little was born 18 Jun 1820 in Stonegrave to John and Eleanor (Wilson) Little. As for Elizabeth, I am researching as to whether she married after she bore Ann for financial support perhaps (I’m assuming Ann was her only child, given she was illegitimate). I did find an Elizabeth Render marrying a Benjamin Parkinson on 19 Mar 1836 in Husthwaite. I don’t know if Elizabeth did marry after she bore Ann, but it’s just a speculation.

That is the possibility I was talking about. Regardless of whether she married after Ann was born, I did find an Elizabeth Render born in 1797 in Husthwaite to a Thomas and Mary Render. I also found an Elizabeth Render born in 1796 in Coxwold to a Thomas and Ann (Coats) Render. Both of them are in the right area and put her at the right age to have Ann.
