There are a few coming up on Irish sites. As Wigtownshire does have a close connection to Ireland, I would suggest that that might be the origin.

thanking you all for your interest in my post and your support. As for the source of Elizabeth's surname , it was on the Ancestry site. I will take your advice on the Irish records as opposed to Scottish.

McCally is quite common in Ayrshire but I think it is of Irish origin  ... just in case there's a transcription error.

Hair of Ayrshire, Williamson of Tradeston, Glasgow. Nelsons in Australia with Haywards Heath connections.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
