Joseph Wilkinson and family 1871- 1881
« on: Friday 02 October 20 22:47 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Could do with a fresh set of eyes please.
Two questions -
1. where is the family on ancestry in 1871 - I found them on FindMyPast.
2. Where are the family in 1881

Joseph Wilkinson was bap 25 11 1837 at All Saints Newcastle , living Ouseburn and in 1841 is with his parents Thomas and Jane ( King) at Longbenton. In 1851 he is still with them , now at Crook and Billy Row Co Durham.
In 1861, he is married to Martha Milne marr  S q 1858 Newcastle and  they are living with their daughter Elizabeth Milne Wilkinson at Forth St Ncle.
In 1871, the expanding family are at Wellington Terrace Westgate Ncle but I can’t find that on ancestry and I think others can’t either , as they have then headed off onto an incorrect tree line.
I found the youngest daughter
Martha Isabella as an inmate at Jubilee Road Industrial School All Saints Newcastle in 1881 , but I can’t track the rest of the family safely if at all.
Martha the mother , dies age 39 in S q 1877, which is probably why they are so hard to track.

The trees online have in my opinion wrongly attributed the Joseph born in Co Durham ( a tailor ) to this line, but Joseph’s baptism clearly states they were living at Ouseburn at the time of baptism , hence me going with the Joseph and Martha line. He was baptised at the same time as his older brother and both state living Ouseburn.
Thanks for looking. I’m fine with his siblings and subsequent generations thanks.

Many thanks Maureen. I’d tried searching by RG, piece , folio and by searching using the others on the same page too but couldn’t get anywhere. Knew a fresh set of eyes would crack it! Thanks again.

Many thanks amondg. I had those births and deaths too from gro. I was intrigued that the Martha Jane b 1865 was indexed on freebmd from a typed list as Martha Jane , but on gro as the Martha June.
Good spot re Wellesley. Would have been so much easier if they’d all used their middle names to try to narrow them down from all the other Wilkinson’s!

Not sure if this is your George William Wilkinson who married Jane Turnball 1886 a copy of the marriage certificate could prove his fathers name.

There are also Masters and Mates Certificates on ancestry 1886,1888 and 1890 the age is right
he dies 1900 age 39. He may have been sent as labour on the boats the same as Thomas.

I've tried to find a death that fits of dad Joseph, as to send the children either to schools or training ships or the workhouse indicates that something bad happened as well as mum dying. Nothing fits so far. They are twiglets on one branch of the tree so I'll add them to the 'certificates to buy list' .
