Who Lived in a Place Like This?

Looking for ideas as to where this might be. It's a postcard with nothing on the back. Not sure if it will help but I bought when in Grasmere in the Lake District recently.
Answers on a postcard please

My first thoughts would be alms houses  or an Oxbridge* college.

* reminds be a little of Clare College, Cambridge - inner quad

Added - just looked at some images of inside court yard of Clare- not the same- memory playing tricks.

My first thought was some kind of ecclesiastical dwelling.

Almshouses?

Grace and favour houses?

The doors are quite odd - they look very secure.
