That's a great view...nice to see that the building is still the same and well kept.

Jane Gibson, the widow of a local merchant, had built a complex of alms-houses on this site in 1727; Elizabeth Gray Mowbray funded the building of the present alms-houses in 1863.  The new buildings were an early design by the Durham-born architect Edward Robert Robson (1836–1917).
The buildings are strongly Gothic in style, and follow Pugin’s notion of recreating a medieval alms-house. The block has an L-shaped plan, as well as a forecourt framed by walls and railings. There are four houses in total, each of two storeys. Each has a central door set within a pointed arch. The doors are flanked by gables with pointed arches and two-light windows. The second house is built at the corner, and for this reason the door is set within a canted corner bay. …….At the left-hand side is a stepped chimney-stack with a Latin inscription commemorating Jane Gibson’s laying of the original foundation stone in 1727 and Elizabeth Gray Mowbray’s rebuilding in 1863.  ( https://goo.gl/maps/134kCePgzioGXXbB6 ) The right-hand chimney-stack displays the Mowbray lion in low relief under a drip mould with fleur-de-lys finial.

Dr Michael Johnson,. The Architecture of Sunderland, 1700-1914 .

The alms-houses were damaged on 24th may 1943, by a 500 kg. H.E.bomb which left a crater 60 feet across and 12 feet deep in Church Walk, no residents were injured. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sunderlandpubliclibraries/3150058713/

Thanks Stan for taking the time to post the history of the Almshouses, it makes very interesting reading.
Yes Ruskie, good to know that it has been preserved.
