Thirty years ago I used to be able to buy tinned pumpkin which was a lovely treat (although I've also been known to bring back a tin or two when visiting family in America) but the small specialty shop that stocked it closed and haven't seen it here in Ireland in years  :'(
As a sort of substitute I make shoo-fly pie  :D
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

My great aunt Norma was, among other things, a turkey farmer.  My mother used to tell the story of how Norma once sent them a turkey for Thanksgiving.  This was when my mother was still new to the United States and unfamiliar with Thanksgiving and turkeys.  She just shoved the thing in the oven without examining it first.  Norma had packed a few pounds of fresh farm butter inside the bird for shipping. The turkey came out of the oven swimming in a lake of melted butter.

I do remember making one of those frozen birds that have everything but an alarm clock inside them. Kept looking for a party hat-I think the "turkey lifter" gadget was the last out.

Since it's thanksgiving, I am thankful for the day that ends in pie. ;D

There is always the 2nd most famous pumpkin pie (next to RK's Mums) at Costco 3.5lbs/1.5kg of deliciousness for $5.99, serves 12. The pie has a cult like status boasting it's own fan-made Facebook page and Twitter account. Most likely sold out by now though Maureen....sigh...boo...hiss. :P :P

Thanksgiving very quiet this year...we opted for salmon and will save the turkey for Christmas. I did make a pumpkin pie yesterday...the old standard off the E.D. Smith canned pumpkin can. It was delicious!  It was suggested in Ontario we stay at home, no households intermingling.  :'(
