Baptised at the age of 45:
« on: Monday 05 October 20 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hi All…
I am researching the exact birthplace of a certain Charles Brice McGregor.

If I have the birthdate (orphan - 24th June 1782 in 'Glasgow') and a baptism date, (19th of June 1827 in London) should I be able to find the names of the parents ?

Thanks in advance…, Iain.

Iain, am I right in thinking you have a pretty comprehensive tree on Anc*. I f so I did notice you had his wife as Elizabeth McGheill. Have you seen the marriage image dated 2nd September 1805 at ST James Westminster between a Charles Brice McGregor and Elizabeth ROSS.

The baptism date you have given 19th June 1827 is that of  his daughter Elizabeth.

John, it seems Iain already has this information  :-\

I found another two children for Brice and Elizabeth, both baptised in London:
- Jane Elizabeth, baptised on the 20th of August 1814, father, Brice is recorded as a “serjt” in the “Guards”* and living at Tothill Street, Westminster.
- Elizabeth, baptised on the 19th of June 1827.

Brice is a victualler and living in Whitehall.”

 Hi John..., thanks.

Forgive me..., you are certainly correct.  Blimey !
Yes, it's my tree and I’ll be publishing a book about him and his/my Regiment next month. (The Scots Guards at Waterloo)
I have a friend who's working with a New Zealand film director for an update of the 1970 feature film, and because of it, Brice will certainly become a 'new-found' Scottish hero.  However, I'm nearly certain he wasn't born in Glasgow.  So, before 'going public,' I was doing a little research.

How stupid of me !  With him being a Freemason, I linked the two and became 'delirious.'  Up every day at 04h00..., errors occur in the evenings !
Lol..., sorry for that !   Thanks..., Iain.

..., off to bed !!   ;)

Thank you Jen...

'Victualler:'  In fact he was the Brigade 'publican' at the Horse Guards building. (where the two Household Cavalry Guards have their N°1 and 2 boxes)
The Tilt Yard being the target for several terrorist incidents.

Thanks JenB for making me aware of the previous post, does help not to waste time!

Just to add Iain, Frederick James McGregor had 5 children, you have missed Henry Brice b&d 1846 and Isabella Catherine 1853 Lambeth.

Lol..., thanks John.  Frederick was a tobacconist..., not surprising that through the mist of musket smoke it had me squinting...   ;)

Thank you John…  I don’t merit your generosity.
I had someone in Scotland check out ‘Scotland’s People’ and he didn’t find a baptism for Brice.  This is what pushed me to believe he wasn’t baptised as a child/orphan and was pushed to get it done as an adult.
Being a C/Sgt in HQ and rubbing shoulders with the Regimental Chaplin during the cremations, got me thinking.

Brice (he never called himself Charles) is absolutely no relation…, I just created an Ancestry tree for him to help with my book.
Also, researching his parents was done for two reasons.  I live near Waterloo and there are yearly events (except 2020) where descendants get together and share stories.  However, someone is missing out.  There’s an American who apparently has him as a 3xgr but simply doesn’t want to know.  Quite unusual for an American !
Also, Glasgow has enough heroes and it bothers me that some small Argyllshire town is also missing out.

Thanks everyone…
