Well done!
So we know Mary had died by 1881.
I didn't see anything else of them in the Lambeth poor law records, but there might be (possibly!)
Generally I find that families of costermongers/hawkers like your Thomas tend not to appear in those records too much. Extremely independent, I guess. But son Thomas was ill on that occasion.
There is still the problem of identifying Mary.

Thanks for this. There seem to have been several Thomas Owen/Owens living in Lambeth around this time. Although his wife has the same name as the family Iím interested in I donít think this one is connected.

There is still the problem of identifying Mary.

I would imagine that without a marriage record there would not be much hope of identifying her parents.

But son Thomas was ill on that occasion.

Is this document taken from Lambeth poor law records? Iím having trouble fully deciphering it and hadnít realised it was regarding Thomas Owens (the son) Ė given the date I presumed it related to the death of Mary Jennings.

It's in the London poor law records on ancestry
Lambeth / Lambeth / Settlement Papers / Rough Settlement Examinations, 1875-1877 / image 34

It is the "complication" that might well mean that the Dec 1875 death of a Mary Jennings is unconnected, i.e. the exam was on 6 Dec 1875
I was failing to find a likely Mary Owen/s death in Lambeth

Thomas Owen
3 Windmill Court
re Thomas Jennings

Thomas J. Infy (Infirmary) 14 is Illegt Chd of Mary Jennings with whom (Informant?) has cohabited 18 years + was born Charles St Oakley St in P(arish) ever since. he has Rheumatic's in his leg.

Thanks John for transcribing the record entry and for pointing to the source. Iíve been able to find the original document; it looks like thereís a wealth of information in the Poor Law and Guardian Records that I havenít come across before. In the same Rough Settlement and Examinations book thereís an entry for another Owens in the family tree Ė looks like Iím going to be busy for a while.

For some reason using the Ancestry search filter doesnít help me locate the record for Thomas Jennings/Mary Jennings Ė could this be because not all sources have been indexed? or maybe Iím not filtering effectively.

Hi
Yes, it's because they haven't indexed most of the records on there. There may be indexes in the original books (as with Lambeth)
They do have another database for settlement records which is indexed, but they have made slow progress with it down the years.

Thanks so much for your help with this John. Itís been very illuminating to be able to fill in some more details about this part of the family.
