Help needed for deciphering some 17th century words in an inventory of goods
« on: Wednesday 07 October 20 11:39 BST (UK) »
Hello, I'd be very grateful for some help to fill in the blanks of this document from (i think) 1671. It seems to be a list of goods for William Southam (lived in Banbury). This is what i have so far:

This [??] and [??] monetary of the goods of William Sotham [??] [??] the ______________
Sum for [??] ________[1?]____0____0
Sum for the bed and furniture in the chamber   -------0-------15------0
Sum for linen -------------0-------5-------0....
Sum for a table and sideboard and [thereof?] and [??] ____0_____5_____0
Sum in the [??] and [??] __________0______2_____0
Sum for [??] [lumber?]____________0_____0_____1
               ----------2-----8--------0

[Byouf?] [Eisgan Southam?]
[Mark?] [??]
Henry [Baffg?]

Any clarification would be most welcome and gratefully received - many thanks indeed.

My reading is:
This Is a treu and parfit monatary monatary of the goodes of
Willam Sotham (?) March the 10
Item for the Bed and fornitud in the Chamber
Item for his (warin?) Chest
Item for a table and sidrebord and (?)
Item in the potry Bras and drinke (?)
Item for ad lomber

I would have expected the missing word in line 2 to be dated, but it doesn't seem to fit the writing. EDITED - could it be desed (for deceased)?

Philip

My tries!

Marine chest?
After the sideboard entry:
Item in the ...try Brass and Drinks....les

I wondered about warin (wearing, i.e. clothes) or marin (marine)

I also wondered about Item in the potry (pottery) - could it be pantry?  Either could make sense.  EDITED - could it be botry (buttery)?

I get the feeling that the writer did not do enough writing to have a consistent style!

Just to finish off:
profed by ous   Richard Southam
                              Nicholas
X (Boaare?) marrk
                              Henry Basse

Item for the Bed and fornitud in the Chamber

I think it’s forniture. The squiggle at the end isn’t ‘d’ but is a commonly used contraction of the letters ‘er’ or ‘re’.

Yay, I've learned something new today!  I hadn't come across that before.  Forniture it is.   :) :)

Item for ad lomber[/b][/i]

Might this be old lumber (i.e. the o and l overlapping so looking like an a)?
