John Winter. Carmarthen Militia
« on: Wednesday 07 October 20 18:02 BST (UK) »
According to his discharge certificate 3281 Gnr Winter, John, (b 20 August 1879) enlisted in the Carmarthen R GA (Militia) on 29 March 1905 and was discharged on 31 May 1908.
"Granted f** under para 59, Special Army Order. 23/12/07"
Total service in the militia is 9 years 64 days.

I am aware that the A O relates to the abolition of the militia and the creation of the Specal Reserve. Is there any way I can find out if he transferred into the Reserve? Also it would appear that he had service prior to enlisting in the Carmarthen militia. Can I find any record of that?

He served as 14178 Pte Winter, John  in 9th Devon Regt during First World War but his service record appears to have been burnt.

Any other information relating to his military career would be most welcome.
