Matthew Feakes - m - Martha Belcher 1839 Swaffham Prior (IGI)

Hi all,
I wonder if SKS could help me with the above marriage in april 1839.

In the censuses I have seen, Martha was from West Hanney, Berks and born/bapt about 1810.

I am hoping, if the records are available, someone could let me know her father's name, if shown. The "Belcher" name is very common in Berks and I'm trying to tie her to my Belcher relatives in my tree. Only a leaf on my tree but filling in some details.

According to transcriptions, her fathers name is blank. It does say he was a wheelwright though.

Just in case you don't have them, and in case they are helpful.. the witnesses were William FEAKES, Emma CAMBRIDGE

Many thanks for such a quick reply.

Her father's occupation was as a Wheelwright  and he died in 1837 West Hanney.
I believe now Martha is the d/o James & Elizabeth so all fits in nicely.

Supplementary question; Can you confirm where  & when Martha married please? I have two conflicting places;

a - just Cambridgeshire  & b - Swaffham Prior

April 30 was the actual wedding. It was a Tuesday.
April 28 was a Sunday and was the third of the three banns readings.

Hi Kath,

As far as I can tell, my "Belchers" were a Berks family way back to the the mid 1660s.

My interest in Martha Belcher arose as I had her in my tree as the d/o James & Elizabeth (nee Angel)
and I found her in the censuses which clearly lists her birth place as West Hanney.

Martha married Matthew Feakes in 1839 in Swaffham Prior and I was trying to find out why/how she managed to get to Cambridgeshire from Berks - possibly as an employment opening, never to return.

Both her parents had already died by 1837 , so I expect I shall never find out.


I would be very interested if you could add some info on your "Belchers"
