Hampshire House Parliament

Good afternoon,

I have just found some information about my grandfather, Christopher Lancaster, who apparently campaigned with Lloyd George and Campbell Bannermann in 1910 and then became "Commissioner of Works in the Hampshire House Parliament in 1911". I cannot find any information at all on internet. What was the Hampshire House Parliament"

I would be very grateful for any help.

There are a number of references to it in the papers. The Hampshire House (Hammersmith) Parliament was formed in 1907 and included among its members such notable figures as G.K. Chesterton and William Morris. Apparently it was formed with the object of discussing all political and social questions conducted according to the rules, orders and forms of the House of Commons.

Hampshire House was in Hog Lane, Hammersmith, and was demolished in February 1956.

Thank you very much for the information.

I have had a quick look in the British Newspaper Archives and found a reference, in 1911, to a "Mr Lancaster, Liberal, Haggerston". As he is talking about public houses without beer and cruelty to children often being due to drink, I am pretty sure that this is my grandfather.

Nice to see he might have rubbed shoulders with Chesterton and Morris!

In the 1911 census he was working as a Bakers Roundsman, probably for Lyons. He later lost his job for bringing 150 women out on strike.

The names G.K. Chesterton and William Morris, appear in a 1955 newspaper report and should be treated with caution as William Morris died in 1896.

Oh dear.... unless he was haunting them? 

I am also trying to find somewhere I can see or even buy back copies of the "Assurance Agents' Chronicle".  Again I have looked and looked on internet, but although I can find references to the Chronicle, I cannot find the thing itself. When Christopher was sacked from the bakery, he became an insurance agent and joined the National Amalgamated Union of Life Assurance Agents, later becoming the Secretary - for 37 years!

Any ideas?
