Australian Convict Fremantle to Rangoon
« on: Wednesday 14 October 20 18:20 BST (UK) »
Hi hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
My convict ancestor, Thomas Ensor was born in London in 1829. He was convicted at the Old Bailey in 1847 to larceny and transported to Fremantle aboard the Hashemy in 1850.
He gained his ticket of leave in June 1851 and was a clerk at the established prison in Fremantle until at least 1855.
I know he was married to Mary Ann Wilson about 1853 they had three children. At least one, Richard Lewis Ensor was born in Rangoon in 1858 and I believe Thomas died in Rangoon in 1885.
Why would  a ticket of leave man go to Rangoon at the time?
To add to the puzzle all three children were baptised in Stoke Newington 1n 1858
