The baptism register image does not state the sex of the child.  Nor does it say son or daughter.

When searching the GRO register the entry comes up on a search for females.

Perhaps you should buy the birth certificate?

Have you investigated the wider families of the couple who adopted the child to find possible links with her and her mother?

yes Barbara I'll buy the birth cert. it still think its strange that on the 1911 census Lu is given as daughter and born in Willesborough, Kent which is only a few miles away from where Harriet was born.
I have looked every which way to try and connect Elizabeth Whitehead with the Giles family and also Harriet's family, without any success.
What I now thinking is that lou was born in the London Workhouse and somehow Elizabeth Whitehouse moved to Willesborough where there is Ashford workhouse. The Giles family got lou from the Ashford workhouse and not knowing where he was born just thought in was the Willesborough workhouse. but still not sure how the adoptive daughter came on the census. If only we could find him/her on any other record. oh well back to the drawing board.
