I don't know if this is of any interest at all.  I found a travel record for a Luella Whitehead age 42, born 1893, address given as Low Royd?, Apperley? Bridge, Bradford.

With her are two children Consuela? age 16 (1919) and Donald age 12 (1923) going to Argentina.

There is a birth record for Donald which could well be him:-

Can't find a birth record for Consuela. 

I cannot see a birth record for Luella around 1893, so could this be Lou?

Luella Whitehead seems to be on many a passenger list - she seems to go backwards and forwards across the ocean every few years!  So I wonder if she started life somewhere other then England?

In which case she isn't our Lu.

And she often travels with a Donald of the same age as herself - presumably a husband.

Definitely isn't.

I did a further check and found an immigration record for a Consuelo Whitehead de Donaldson born 1.6.1918, parents Donald Whitehead and Luella Brandenburg.

Co-incidental that the surname was Whitehead.

This ties in with the Biddenden Parish Register entry for a Whitehead child, illegitimate, where the abode was London. This baptism is indexed as William Giles Whitehead but looks to me like Lu or Lee.

Great find!

On the London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records (Ancestry) there's an Elizabeth WHITEHEAD b 1864 admitted to Westminster/Paddington workhouse 18 Jan 1894 and discharged 24 Jul 1894.
Also a record for Lou WHITEHEAD (transcribed as Len) born 8 Mar 1894 and discharged 24 Jul 1894.

Makes you wonder if the adoption was arranged and the middle name "Giles" was added at the baptism as a nod to the adoptive parents.

Still can't find her post 1901 though.

Brilliant!  That ties in well.

Might be worth trying to trace Elizabeth and see if she married.  Maybe her daughter could be with her under Elizabeths' married name.  Also tracing Elizabeth back might reveal a connection with Frank or his wife Harriet.

Well-the birth reg that Barbara found fits with the workhouse records (and the 1895 baptism) so I'd say that Lou/Lee was born in London(Paddington).

just found this Lou was a boy and on the 1901 census with Frank and Harriet Giles it says adop daug, which i understood as daughter. is this a mistranscribe.? I cant find Lou on any further records be it under Giles or Whitehead. If this indeed the child reg as
