Help needed with Rebecca Warden
« on: Thursday 15 October 20 14:10 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find any details about my 4 x Great Grandmother Rebecca Warden.

I just have her name from a marriage to James Pratt on 29 Jun 1795 in Kelvedon Hatch. I believe he was born about 1771 but I have no details for Rebecca.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Richard.

I think she was probably dead before 1841...

I have a potential match for her husband James Pratt in the Romford workhouse in 1841 but obviously it's quite a common name...

Have you tried to locate a burial for her in the parish they were living in, you don't say if they remained in Kelvedon Hatch after their marriage.  When was the last child born.

This is all pretty sketchy but I think they had two children. James, baptised in Romford 13 Mar 1796 and my 3x GG George baptised 5 Feb 1809 again in Romford.

That's all I have.

The marriage at Kelvedon Hatch 1795 of James Pratt to Rebecca Waldon, both James and Rebecca sign
and Rebecca is Waldon not Warden.
Witnesses are  Sarah Bacon X and Edward Sarling signs

I don't know if the witnesses are useful Edward Sarlings widower marries by license Mary Osborn widow 1798 in Kelvedon Hatch.

Sarah Bacon was Sarah Pratt who married William Bacon 11 October 1787 at Bobbingworth Essex.
so is she a sister of James and was he originally from Bobbingworth?

There is possibly a 3rd child of James and Rebecca Pratt - William baptized 19 October 1806 of James Pratt
There is tape over the mothers name and I cannot read it.

1841 census West Thurrock, Essex (ancestry has the name as Rott)
All born in county
James Pratt 60 Carpenter
Rebecca 65
William 30 Carpenter  (marries Amy Jones 23 January 1830 Aveley Essex.)
Amy 29
Emma 9
Joseph 8
Eliza 5
Mary 1 1/2

1851 William says he was born Romford Essex.

*Deaths West Thurrock Essex
Rebecca Pratt buried 21 March 1847 age 78 (born circa 1769)
James Pratt buried 21 July 1844 age 74

If your George married Maria Hawkes 25 August 1844 at St Mary Newington he says his father James is deceased which would be true since he died a month earlier. It would also mean his first 2 children Emma and James were born before they made it legal.

There's a baptism in Willingale Spain for a Rebecca Walden 18 Apr 1773 d/o James and Mary. Her age on 1841 census gives a birth year between 1772 and 1776, a bit later than her age at death works out at. WS is about 8 miles from KH.

Looks like Edward Sarling was born in Doddington ca 1758 s/o George and Susan, and his first marriage was to Elizabeth Clarke on 2 dec 1783. Signature on marriage record matches 2nd marriage.
