Well I never, so, if I am understanding this correctly, the story so far...
Barachia is a 12 year old boy caught stealing and sentenced to transportation. By the end of the same year he is in Australia and by the age of 15 he is in a chain gang, building roads- at 15!!  I'm not surprised he'd try to run away!
There is the possibility that he was put in the Road Party as a punishment for another crime committed after his arrival in Australia, perhaps this was not the first attempt at escape.

It is a shame the newspaper article was about his capture therefore not needing to include a description, that way we could establish if he was also a person of colour like his cohort John King.

Thanks a lot Jamjar, the other two articles are interesting but I feel I have to consider them as circumstantial evidence at this stage. I'll try and pin this Henry Parnacott down to establish if it is coincidental that he was sent over to Australia on the same ship as Barachia, namesake or blood?

Good work, that had been my assumption as in the original cutting only John King was referred to in connection to his race.

John King was given a harsher sentence, would he have been sent out on the same ship as Barachia?

aha! I see a James King transported on the same the Florentia with Parnacott, but no John. James was sentence to life and was convicted at Middlesex Gaol, I think that means he must be a different guy as John was sentenced to 14 years. The search continues....

I do see a John King,
convicted at Middlesex Gaol,
sentenced to 14 years,
transported on the Argyle.
Departure date 5th March 1831,
arrival 3rd August 1831,
Van Diemen's Land.

... could be him.

I think I have just found this individual on the Old Bailey website and I don't think it is him. This John King was found guilty of stealing some beef.

I have just emerged from a rabbit hole.

On the State Library of Queensland website there is reference to a letter sent in 1841
An escapee with the name Henry Daley from the Florentia was recaptured from Moreton Bay by District Constable Henry Thompson who subsequently is claiming a reward.
The report concluded that there was no convict by that name on the Florentia in 1830 and identified the individual as Barachia Parnacott, no reward offered for Parnacott's apprehension.
I hope that by 1841 Barachia was a free man.

Another letter lists "Prisoners eligible under the provisions of the act of Council of the 1st Victoria 1838 for the conditional remission of sentences of convicts transported to Moreton Bay". Appearing on that list is Barachio (sic) Parnacott "Florentia" 2 labourer.

I have also found details of Zachariah's crimes and am warming to the possibility that he and Barachia are family.
He was born in London 1815.
Tried 2nd March 1835 aged 20 and sentenced to 21 years ( a mighty long time)
He arrived in New South Wales 28th September 1835.

I notice the Henry Parnacott found in the record in 1833 by Jamjar has a similar description- 5 ft, ruddy freckled completion, light brown hair, blue eyes,  also, blue ring on right middle finger (is that a tattoo?) and small scar on breast.
