Harriet Arliss then Askey- Louth
« on: Friday 16 October 20 14:08 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon

Could anyone help with the following please

I have Harriet Arliss born approx 1800 Louth, she married Joseph Askey about 1840. they had two children Ann and Mary Jane. I believe Harriet dies between 1861 and 1871. In 1861 she is married and living Little Lane, Louth. In 1871 her husband Joseph and daughter Mary Jane are still living at Little Lane, then in 1881 Joseph has remarried.

Any help with Harriet's details would be most gratefully received.

Regards
Moo

Hi Keyboard86

I have found on Anc web site that there could be 4/5 other children George, Sarah, Matthew, Francis? and Peter all born Louth to a William and Frances Arliss, still unable to find a death date for Harriet.

Thank you for the help. ;D

Hi again, a few more on FindMyPast including a John Pawson Arliss 2nd December 1806 Lough St James, possible marriage William Arliss to Frances Pawson 9th November 1806 ,but that would make Frances possibly pretty old, when William/Frances baptised Frances 1829

I think you`ve the right marriage for William Arliss and Frances Pawson.

FreeReg has a baptism for William Arliss on the 8th July 1784 at St James Church Louth, making him about 22 at the time.

I couldn`t find a baptism for Frances, although there are a few Pawsons in Louth at that time.

I checked the baptisms for any others between Harriet in 1811 and the 1829. There are lot of Arlisses but none with William and Frances as parents.

Then I`ve looked for any burials, to see if they had any infant deaths; this was the result.

Mary Arliss dau of Frances Arliss on 3rd Nov 1808 "a base child" ? St James
Jane dau of William Arliss on 5th Dec 1811 ?                                            "
Peter age 7 on 7th Aug 1815                                                                  "

It doesn`t equate with the Anc find!
Then there`s this baptism, Sarah on the 10th April 1833 mother Harriet Arliss singlewoman.

Askey/Askew/Ayscough was a fairly common name in the Louth area; so there may be problems of identification.  The Louth rating list for 1851 showed Joseph Askey as the tenant of a low value house in the Monks' Dyke area (which included Little Lane).  He may, or may not, be the same Joseph who was convicted of various Louth thefts at Lindsey Quarter Sessions in 1847 and sentenced to nine months hard labour; the surname was given as Askey in the Lincolnshire Chronicle but Askew in court documents.
