Burial record, Ayr.
« on: Friday 16 October 20 15:19 BST (UK) »
My 3xGreatgrandfather Peter McCann died in 1860, he had been living at Elba Street, Wallacetown. Ayr.

On his death certifacate, it says he was buried at the Catholic Church Yard, would this be St Margarets RC Church?

Also would anyone know if these burial records can be viewed anywhere?

It would be  St Margaret's if he was buried in Ayr sadly the records there on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk are only 1822-1857.

You could contact the Cathedral directly to advise you where the records might be held.

I will PM the details.

Elba St. is right next to the church so he was carried only a short way.

Thanks for the replies,

only three years away from the year I was after, I had looked on the old maps and seen he didn't go far from home!

The library might have monumental inscriptions for St Margarets.

This might be useful: https://www.troonayrshirefhs.org.uk/

They have publications i.e. Death and Burial Records in South Ayrshire - Book (A5) £3.50

Might be worth emailing to enquire what yrs are covered although there are no orders being taken during covid.
