Tracing a missing child
« on: Saturday 17 October 20 11:13 BST (UK) »
Greetings Nice People,
I've looked at the 1911 census for my Great grandparents (David and Anne (nee Davies) Davies) who lived at Camolwg, Cwmrheidol, Aberystwyth. It has that they had had 4 children together. At the time 2 were alive and 2 had died. The 2 alive were my Grandfather David (1878-1946) his brother Enoch (1882-1915) and I only know of 1 other who was Annie (1889-1905) . They married in 1878, Anne was his second wife. His first wife , Elinor (Eleanor)Evans died in 1877. So, Mary, Elizabeth, Edward and John were with Elinor ( there may have been more with Elinor as she may have had long-term health problems. The 2 other places I know David and Anne lived at that I also can't find are Abermaide Mill House and Craig y bwch . All in the Aberystwyth area.
So, I would like to know:
Who is the missing young child for David and Anne
Did David and Elinor have any other children than the 4 I know about - My cousin thinks that David could have had as many as 13 kids in total.
Where are the 3 places (I know of!) that David and Anne lived in.
And also, David and Elinor lived in Perthygwenin and Waungron in Llanddeiniol and I haven't found them exactly. Any maps showing any these 5 places would help tremendously
Thanks for looking - Take care and keep safe - Kind Regards - Keith Davies

Have you tried searching the GRO index using surname and mothers maiden surname for the childrens birth registrations

Is this your family? Presumably Mary is the child of the first marriage but David not with the family.

1891 4561/3/4
Camolwg
David Davies 46 yrs
Anne Davies 41 yrs
Mary Davies 22 Yrs
Enock Davies 8 yrs
Anne Davies 1 yr

There is quite a gap between Enoch and Anne so there could be a missing child there.

The 1911 census children numbers refers to children of the wife

Did David +Ann both have  previous marriages ? Could 4th child be for Ann as a single mother or first marriage ?

Have you got birth baptism marriage for your grandad

Why does your cousin believe Elinor had more children

brigidmac,

I think it should be children ‘born alive to the present marriage’ (To the woman  :) )

For information - the family in 1881 with David b 1879
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2WS-M4N5

They are living at Abermaide Mill House - hope this link works for Aber-Maide - the 1888 map. If not search old maps for postcode SY23 4ES

This might be better for seeing Abermaide. If you slide the slider to the left you get a modern view of the map and to the right, the old map.

On google maps, Abermad is between the A485 and the river -just above the fork of A485 and the B4576.

If you google the other places You can’t find, you might find them with a spelling variant perhaps.
