Black and Tans
« on: Sunday 18 October 20 17:34 BST (UK) »
Hello  :)

I've just found out that a relation of mine, Ernest Edward Banks (born 1896 in Islington) was a 'Black and Tan'...  I can't find any information about him - can anyone help me please?

He was married to Ada Laura.  Ernest was shot during the conflict, but not killed.

Any help would be gratefully received.  Thank you, Selby

Hi Haywood,
Thanks for your message. Which bit did he come under?
Will have another look, unless you want to add something?
                    Best regards,        Billy.

I couldnít work out how I got that information  ::)

However, I found this:
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/royal-irish-constabulary/

Click on the link at 3:1 - takes you to FindMyPast (.ie).
I thought it might be your man because of your mention of Galway but there is a mention of 1867  ??? so maybe not and the three references refer to the same man.

Hi Haywood,
Thanks for your message, I was searching on the British FindMyPast.
Will have another check.  Did a search on RIC Auxiliaries
lots of stories but thought may be the local newspapers
                      might have something.

Need to wait for the libraries to reopen.
                      Best regards,      Billy.
