German - 1765 marriage register - help reading please
« on: Monday 19 October 20 11:49 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'd be very grateful if someone could transcribe the marriage entry of 1765 Feb 8 please.
The place is Banzkow.

I believe it is Johann Georg Wöstenberg, his father Georg Friedrich Wöstenberg.
The bride is Catharina Maria Harberg, her father is Christian Ludwig Harberg.
Not sure what it says after that.

Is there anything to indicate that the groom is a widower?

thanks very much for any help,
Lisa

Wow, thanks Dave, that's ever so kind of you.

May I ask something else please?

This attached marriage record from 1781 is of a Johann Friedrich Wöstenberg,  father, Johann Georg Wöstenberg.
The bride here is Catharina Sophia Passow.

I found Johann and Catharina on the 1819 census where Johann Friedrich's dob is given as 1758, so having found the 1765 marriage of Johann Georg Wöstenberg, that was making me think there could be an earlier marriage (or possibly two Johann Georg Wöstenbergs in the same village of Banzkow).

Does this marriage record offer any further clues?

many thanks,
Lisa

Thank you, Dave.

I hadn't realised that the bits I couldn't read might have all this useful info, like youngest/oldest etc.

I had found a death/burial in 1779 for Claus Passow, so that looks to be correct, though Claus Passow is not such a common name as some of the other combinations.  Of the other children I have found, I have Catharina Sophia as the eldest daughter, so that's good.

As far as I have worked out, Catharina Sophia's mother is also a Wüstenberg/Wöstenberg, I haven't yet started to find how she might be connected to the Wöstenbergs that marry the Passow children.

Catharina Sophia has a brother Carl Passow, who also marries a Wöstenberg.  He marries Catharina Sophia Wöstenberg, who is the daughter of Johann Georg Wöstenberg and his wife in the 1765 marriage.  So I had been trying to work out if it was a brother and sister from the Passow family marrying a brother and sister from the Wöstenberg family, but it looks then that the Wöstenbergs might be half siblings or there are two Johann Georg Wöstenbergs in the same place.

Whilst there are a lot of Wöstenbergs in that village/area, the Georg part of the name is not so common.

Anyway I think I came across a baptism record which may offer a solution, so if I can find it again, I'll post the relevant bit.

Hope you don't mind, many thanks,

Lisa
