Was Rosa Louisa Robinson 1828- 1905 a bigamist
« on: Tuesday 20 October 20 15:27 BST (UK) »
After her marriage to Mark Amos 1828-1893 they went to Austalis arriving on July 2 nd  1852 prospecting for gold.  He married again  in Melbourne in 1865 ,Eliza Sarah Tremain. I cannot find  Rosa retirning to the UK. But  at some point she marries  Edward Fisher 1826-1908, as seen in the 1891 Census. Rosa's sister Georgiana is staying with them. Edward is a retired colonial civil servant . I cannot find him in any records. He was born in Ireland and was mentioned in Quaker Published memorials

Not finding any UK marriage of Rose to either Mark Amos or Edward Fisher.

Do you have any marriage details for her first marriage to Mark?

The 1901 census gives her birth year as 1834 born in Canterbury, Kent.  So which birth year is correct?

Is Robinson her birth surname?

Without finding a marriage we don't know they actually were married just that they were down as husband and wife.

So the first husband would be the bigamist wouldn't he?  Unless they were divorced  :-\

I was thinking the same thing Millipede re Edward Fisher marriage.  Abroad somewhere rather than the UK.

Perhaps they married in Ireland on their way back to the UK?

Mark Amos's death is registered in Victoria, Australia 1893.  Died aged 65.  It states his mother was an Ann Butterworth.

Family Search have a very basic probate record, surveyor, died 20th April 1893.  A couple of entries above Mark's is one for what looks like an Eliza S. Amos, married woman, died 18th August 1889. His wife probably.
