I know this is a long shot but couldnt see James on anything after 1871 so maybe Wilhelmina died and he moved to England!!!

I have found that young Archibald called his first born Archibald after his dad then the names of the other children were James after Grandad then Doris Jessie , Mary ,Rose ,Blanche ,Margaret ,Philip ,Samuel ,Vernon then Violet .
I always tend to look for name connections and would of thought Wilehmenia would have been a christian or middle name of one of his children but it may well have not been but I cannot find anything apart from what you have found on James ,Archibald senior or Jessies deaths.

Wilhelmina died in 1877 .James was still alive. James and Wilhelminas daughter Agnes died in 1893 her father was listed as deceased and his occupation a Soldier so I hope this gives you a window to look for him.
