Hello Trek06, I stumbled across you post and wanted to reach out to you.  Lamar was my great uncle. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our family or about my grandfather, Jerry, Lamars brother. I want to thank you for taking care of his gravesite.

Hi Justine and Cyrille!

I’m Denise (Kyle who responded before is my cousin) Lamar was our great uncle.

I was able to visit his graveside back in 2003. I’m so excited to “meet” someone who is caring for his place of rest. Thank You!

What would you like to know about him?

Hello,

We are looking for a picture of Lamar. Kyle helped us a lot to know his family and his environment. We have sent Kyle Lamar's IDPF. We have learned that he passed away from a shrapnel wound.

Normally, in August, we will visit Lamar and take pictures.

I will find a photo and post it here.  What is an IDPF?

Also, do you know what they do with momentos that are left at the grave site or on the cross?

Hi, I'm Justine's dad. I'm answering because the questions are too technical for Justine ;)

The IDPF is Lamar's personal death record (circumstances, burial sites, list of personal effects...). We have learned that Lamar died of shell wounds to the head.

Normally, items left on graves are collected by the cemetery steward and stored in the soldier's personnel file by the cemetery's ABMC. Each time the cemetery is visited, one can ask to see the file and the objects. This summer I will leave Lamar's IDPF with the cemetery steward.

Cyrille and Justine

There are no photos to be found on Clarence, I've been looking for some WWII groups on Facebook.  I can give you a good shot of his tombstone.
