help with dating a photo of Philip Clark
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 12:10 BST (UK) »
Can someone help date this photo of my ancestor Philip Clark, it's supposed to be my 3x great grandfather Philip Clark taken in about 1939, he was born 1876, but I think it could be his father instead judging my the style of clothes.

There isn't much to go on but I think your suggested date would fit, but a bigger scan would help.

Very difficult to tell from that pic...

Is it a crop from a larger image?

Romilly.

Just resized it until a better scan arrives.  He seems to be wearing a muffler. As Carol says, it could be 1930s.

What was his occupation?  I have to say, without reading any other replies, I thought on looking at this photo it was a working man from the 1930's.

I was just about to post a little pic of my grandmother's (in my avatar) brother taken in the 1930s. He's wearing a similar cap but I think he has a tie on!  He was a coal miner. I remember my grandfather wearing a cap and white scarf/muffler like that in the late 1940s.

This is just a small pic as I'm on my laptop.

His occupation was a dock labourer in Liverpool. The photo  always looked tinted on my grandmother,s wall.  I have attached a bigger photo

Well I think that’s absolutely appropriate working dress for a dock labourer in the 1930’s.

So very likely your gx3 grandfather born in the 1870’s
