The Rev John Lewis

Hi Everyone
Looking for help in finding the parentage of The Very Reverend John Lewis born I believe Jan 1 1717 Worcester. He married Katherine Villiers and had a daughter Elizabeth Katherine LEWIS who married William Surtees. I've found small snippets about his career and when he died in 1783 but I can find nothing about his parents.If anyone can offer help etc I'd be vey grateful.

7 Nov 1747 Westminster Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex.

Do you know if there were any other children or which church/s John was at?

Also there are a number of wills on Ancestry do you know where he died?

Hi -- I do know that he died 28 June 1783 and that he was also married to Charlotte Cotterell.

I note that when John married Catherine Villiers on a record I have just found he was noted as a Clerk of Dartford, Kent age above 21. So when did he go into the Clergy?

The only baptism I can find for that year below but there are others 1720 & 1725plus others elsewhere in the County.

I think for sure that is his burial . having had a good look online there is a small amount of information regarding his career but I would have thought his parentage would have documented .

There are so many clerics called John Lewis that having a location (Dartford) was the clue needed to find him in the Clergy Database. This gives an abbreviated biography, and more can be found in the Alumni volumes relating to Westminster School and Oxford University:

The Oxford volume describes him as son of John Lewis of London, "armiger".

I see that at his death he was Dean of Ossory in Ireland, so there might be records there that are of interest.

I appreciate your help----so we now have his fathers name John so that is a big step in the right direction.
