He may well be alive - and as the split with the family was acrimonious I can't place details in public domain - I actually hope to find another branch of the family who has the 'missing link' that I've been looking for these 20plus years! Thanks for the hint about births etc - could be vital

Good luck with your search. If he was in the RAF in WW2, his records will still be with the MOD in the UK. I am not sure on acccess if he is still alive. If he was in the RNZAF and attached to a RAF Squadron as my uncle was, his records would be in NZ. I think it would be a similar story with access.

Rootschatters are amazing. Thank you all for your help. Thanks to minniehaha in particular, who has found this relative, who (as I suspected from passenger lists) was born in New Zealand. I now have a new thread to help my research - after over 20 years - and it may lead to a whole new look to my family tree. Thank you all again - and to everyone else, never give up, you may well break down even the most stubborn brick wall! x
