Furlong Christian Name on 1877 Marriage Registration?
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 21:26 BST (UK) »
I am having a spot of bother reading the Christian name for Mary Furlongs' father, on this 1877 marriage. Thanks in advance!

Tricky.  The first letter could by J, L, or S - but it isn't entirely consistent with others on the page.  My best guess is Sym.

My guess would be Simon or Symon.

There is a death of a Simon Furlong in 1870, age 53, Enniscorthy. No image available

The 1877 marriage states her father is alive. I would have also have said Sym though the S in Scoby on same page is completely different.

As far as I am aware, the Irish records do not indicate whether a parent is deceased unlike English & Scottish records.

Note that the priest has written 'alive' for both fathers.
