As Shaun says joined in 1903 for 3 years + 9 in reserve & recalled at the outbreak of war.
He was at Herlies France on the 19th. Oct. 1914.
Although this is the date recorded for his capture the 26th. listed on his POW file makes more sense.
They weren't doing much on the 19th. but on the 26th. they were attempting to retake a trench overrun by Germans & suffered heavy casualties.
