I have an ancestor born at Tile Sheds, Abbey Lanercost in August 1871.

Can anyone tell me the location of 'Tile Sheds' please.

Have you tried to find it on the 1871 census?

If you can find his or her parents you can get an idea of where it was by paging back and forward and reading the notes on page 1 of the enumerators route.

Thank you all for your answers. Much appreciated.
In the 1871 Census they were living at Blackmoss, Bewcastle - which William Armstrong, my ancestors father, owned.
August 1871 when my Ancestor Robert was born they were living at Tilesheds - unless she just went there to have her baby. It was her first!

January 1873 they were back at Blackmoss for the birth of her next baby.

Then May 1874 they were living at New House, Bewcastle. And so the moves go on!!!!

I will research further and find who lived at Tiles Sheds in the 1871 Census.

According to a tree on Ancestry, Margaret Holmes, the mother of Robert in 1871, was the daughter of Robert Holmes and Mary Armstrong. She was born in March 1821 in Bewcastle, so there could be a family connection.
