Ann Edwards
« on: Thursday 22 October 20 23:00 BST (UK) »
Looking for Ann Edwards.
She marries William Simpkins, 16 Jun 1790, Clifton Upon Dunsmore, Warwickshire. She is listed as 'of Catthorpe, Leicestershire' on the marriage record.

The only Edwards in a close vicinity to Catthorpe is the burial of a Reverend Joseph Edwards of Swinford in 1777.

Ann is buried 1827 Clifton Upon Dunsmore. Birth date given as 1757.

She doesn't appear to be the Ann Edwards bapt 1760 Willoughby Waterless, leicestershire.

Any help appreciated.

1. Have you looked for alternatives such as Hannah, or Edward/e/s?

2. Did Ann and William have any children and if so, what were their names?

3. If the dates are correct, Ann would have been 33 when she married. She could have been a widow. I don't suppose it says whether she was a spinster or not?

4. Who were the witnesses at Ann and William's wedding?

5. Are there any Simpkin wills that might mention wider family?

Thank you.

William and Ann themselves do seem a bit of a mystery.

The only Simpkins in this area other than William is a Mary Simpkins who marries in Catthorpe, Leicestershire in 1788 to Charles Swinfen or Charles Swinfen Deacon.

As for the Edwards, There are none apart from some in Rugby but there doesn't seem to be any connection to Ann and there is the burial in near by Stanford on Avon for Rev Joseph Edwards.

I wondered if there was a connection to the Rev Joseph Edwards of Stanford on Avon and Swinford. These are right next to Catthorpe.

He dies in 1777 and appears to have been appointed Rev in 1766. He appears to have a Master of Arts but that's all that ClergyDatabase can tell me.

Catthorpe is a v small place and v close tothe Leic/warwicks border. It's not that far to Northamptonshire either. Maybe you need to spread your net a little wider? I know of people who were married in rugby but came from the villages near catthorpe, for example (and vice versa!)

The only possible baptism I've found is of an Ann Edwards baptised 10 miles away from Catthorpe at Braunston, Northamptonshire in 1756 (My Ann's birthdate at death is given as 1757) daughter of William and Elizabeth.
