What happened to Mary Grace?
« on: Friday 23 October 20 18:33 BST (UK) »
Hi! Hoping that someone can help solve a mystery that's blighted myself and a cousin for a number of years. So, my great-aunt Bridget Fletcher, in 1928 had a daughter aboard a train between Tycroes & Valley Railway Station. The daughter was called Mary Grace Fletcher b. 29th May 1928. Her mother was travelling from Plumstead, London to Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland where her mother lived. I have Mary Grace's birth cert & three newspaper articles about the birth but cannot find a death record or even a marriage (if she lived) for her.
I have searched Irish records, but found nothing.
My cousin only found out about Mary Grace when clearing out her late father's house & passed me on the information she had. Mary Grace is her aunt & she knew absolutely nothing prior to finding the information.
So, can someone help me to find out what happened Mary Grace? Thank you.
The surnames, which I am interested in are; Maternal side: Ryan, Kevin, Grant, Grady, Gleeson, Walsh, Dwyer, Paternal side: O' Dwyer, Woodlock, Rochford - all in Tipperary; and Kelly and Hoynes in Laois.

Ryan, Campbell, Luttrell, Grant, Grahame, Bainbridge and Brown in Queensland, Australia

Tighe in Victoria, Australia.

Grant in Philadelphia, Sullivan and Penny in New York; and Britton in Connecticut

The Anglesey birth registration for Mary Grace Fletcher - "born on a train between stations" - 29 May 1928, has father Charles William Fletcher, mother Bridget O'Dwyer, which contradicts the information you have. There is an additional note to say the family were from Woolwich.

Charles William and Bridget Fletcher are in Woolwich in 1939 but without Mary Grace or any other children. Also present are Dennis Dwyer (perhaps Bridget's brother?) and three other adults.

I hope I haven't deepened the mystery

Nope, mystery is still the same. Just my silliness made a mistake, the mother was indeed Bridget

Have to wonder if she died soon after birth and was buried in Ireland if that's where mother was going.

You say her mother was going to visit her mother in Ireland, maybe burial records for the Irish part of the family could help?  If the baby was buried with family.

Hope you find out  :)
