Hello Minniehaha.

Wellington or Wellington Province ??

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/MS19001004.2.33?end_date=31-12-1900&items_per_page=10&query=Oroua+Coal+Creek+Block&snippet=true&start_date=01-01-1839

In the early surveys of the Rangitikei - Manuwatu, there were a number of blocks named after UK Cities, including the Manchester Block, NZ TIMES 26/9/1874 page 2.

There are a limited number of press clippings referring to Birmingham Post Office [plus railway station on Archway]

https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ItemAdvancedSearch.do

Oroua Coal Creek Block and Pohangina Valley / River will lead to some. Wanganui Chronicle 22/3/1890; Wanganui Herald 3, 5 & 8/4/1890 brings up some adds, but I found little reference after 1900 so presumably the service closed or had a name change.  Don't know if this is any help to your quest.

Hello Brentor Boy.

Down south is not my patch, so while I was looking for early postal records, you posted right to the point.  Should have re-checked the thread before, I published my penny worth. I just know that a lot of names used on the early surveys, have become history, as settlements progressed through the years.

Happy hunting Minniehaha.

Before being called Birmingham it was known as Fowlers. A chap called Fowler set up the first store there.

Was changed from Birmingham to Kimbolton about 1900 because mail addressed to people there was ending up in Birmingham in the UK for some reason.

I grew up there.
