The old Pot and Glass Inn , near Cross gates ?
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 06:55 GMT (UK) »
On a google search looking for a relation i came across an old photo of the Pot and Glass Inn, its a really bad copy or rather when i try to download a copy its awful, i can just make out a name on a sign above the door.
According to the Durham record it was taken about 1950 or so, from what i can see the building looks derelict.
I would like a copy that i can see better or any other information about the old pub.
My relation i was looking for might have been the last landlord as in 1939 lives elsewhere, his name was Alfred Southern who married May Smith and her mother Frances Hutson (Hudson) lived there for many years, Frances Hutson (Hudson) was married to Thomas Smith and he was the land lord there also many years ago

Thanking you
Dave in New Zealand.

Are you able to post a picture of it so we can see it?

I can't see reference to the name in Lost Pubs of Durham.

During heavy snowstorm late yesterday afternoon an omnibus laden with passengers collided with a motor-lorry near the Pot and Glass Inn on the Durham- Bearpark road, on the outskirts of Durham.

Is the name above the door "Alfred Southern"? A sad sight - a derelict pub.
