Hi all,

Hitting a brick wall with my great grandfather, William James England and would appreciate a fresh pair of eyes!
Here's what I know so far:
Born approx April 1889 - Army discharge papers have him discharged on 19/07/1918 at the age of 29 years and 4 months.

1911 census in Bishop Monkton (aged 21) states he was born in Somersetshire although unsure of this as this census shows he was working on a farm with my gt grandmother in North Yorkshire.

1916 - Married gt grandmother Lily Banks -  Father listed as Thomas England  (a coal miner)

9th Feb 1924 - died in Ripon North Yorkshire aged 34.

What I really need is a birth record - i have searched through hundreds with no luck.  I have no leads whatsoever for a mothers name and only know his father is named Thomas England ( coal miner) as i purchased William and Lilys marriage certificate.

ANY help really would be much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,
Lena

Wouldn't 29 years and 4 months back from April 1918 go to Jan 1889 or maybe end Dec 1888?

I am also not convinced about that 1911 census entry as there is an entry in 1939 register that could be him.

What was your Williams occupation when he married in 1916, who were the marriage witnesses

My apologies, I miss typed the date on his army discharge papers. It is July not April - hence why I said possible April birthday. I have amended my post.

This is definitely him in the 1911 census. I know this for a fact. My great grandmother Lily Banks is also on there with him.

As I said, I also know he definitely died in 1924 so he wouldn’t be on a 1939 register.

All of the dates I have listed above are what I know to be 100% true. The only thing I’m not sure on is if he was definitely born in Summersetshire or if this is an error on the census.

That does sound promising. Only thing I’m wondering is about the date of birth being 1892. Everything I have places his as being born 1889/1890? What do you think? X
