Great Bedwyn / Trowbridge
« on: Thursday 29 October 20 16:20 GMT (UK) »
I am researching a number of Nutley / Hall baptisms and marriages around 1690-1718 in Wiltshire, and a few of the records I am interested in are listed twice on Ancestry.com, in Great Bedwyn Wiltshire, and Trowbridge Wiltshire.

Now looking on the modern map, Great Bedwyn and Trowbridge are over thirty miles apart.  How would baptisms AND marriages be listed for the very same people, on the very same days, in both areas?

I am looking for baptisms and marriages involving Edward Nutley and Elinor Hall.  One example shown below.  Many thanks.

In the case of a marriage , it could be that the Banns were called in both parishes. But the actual marriage would only have taken place in one!

Often online sites record Marriages and Banns together.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

you can check the actual parish entry on Ancestry and it's the register for Great Bedwyn. Also, shows as that parish on FreeReg.

It is also possible that the transcript from the LDS film has just quoted the wrong parish as both appear on the same film.  I have an instance of this in Lancashire where they transcribed the parish as Adlington when it should have been Morecambe (Poulton le Sands) which is about 40 miles away,  I have seen the original copy.  ;D

Hi KD146,
I have some Nutleys in my family tree and also have transcripts from the Wiltshire Family History Society. On CD CMB 26 Great Bedwyn there is the marriage of Edward Nutly and Elinor Hall 6th January 1718/19.
Although I haven't gone through all of the christenings so far, there is Mary Nutly d/o Edward and Elinor 2nd February 1719/20.
Martha Nutly d/o Edward and Elinor 8th January 1721/22.
Edward Nutly s/o Edward and Elinor 19th January 1723/24.

If there is anything else I can look up for you, please let me know.
